Free Family Literacy Workshop for Professionals

LASS is offering a free professional development opportunity for professionals who work with children and families.

Learn about ways to introduce literacy into your current programs or to start a family literacy program at your organization. Attendees will receive free resources and books, and lunch is provided. This workshop counts toward ECE professional development hours.

Debbie Schiller’s literacy career spans several decades and has involved developing and coordinating early literacy and family and community literacy projects, facilitating a variety of related workshops, and serving as Executive Director of Vernon’s Junction Literacy Centre. Retired since 2013, Debbie remains active as a volunteer, fundraiser and facilitator.

Lynne Reside is an Early Childhood Educator specializing in infant/toddler and Montessori education. Majoring in Fine Arts and Psychology at York University in Toronto, Ontario and working as a Montessori preschool teacher, she became the executive director of the North Okanagan Child Care Society in Vernon, BC. In 2006 Lynne became the Coordinator of the North Okanagan Early Years Council and currently works as the regional Early Years Community Development Coordinator for Success by 6 and Children First with the United Way of the North Okanagan, Columbia Shuswap region. Lynne has served on the provincial board of the Early Childhood Educators of BC for 3 years and has been the executive of the Vernon ECEBC Branch for 20 years. She was recently the recipient of the Ruth Kovacs Award for Literacy.
