Books for Babies and Community Literacy Outreach

Every Spring the LASS office is overtaken by hundreds of bright, sturdy board books as we begin assembling Books for Babies packages. These packages are distributed through public health units and include information about family programs and services in the region, as well as a new book. Approximately 300 Books for Babies bags are distributed in Salmon Arm, Sicamous, Enderby, Armstrong and surrounding communities.

This year LASS is also happy to provide books that Public Health Nurses can give to families after routine childhood vaccinations. We are grateful for this partnership and the opportunity to support families early literacy experiences.

In addition to the Books for Babies program we have also recently contributed book packages to the new non-profit Little Bears Child Care Centre in Sicamous, to the early learning community in Malakwa and to a volunteer tutor assisting Syrian families in Salmon Arm.
