  • Coyote Café After School Literacy Teacher

CHILDREN’S LITERACY FACILITATOR

One to One
A One to One volunteer helps a student with her reading

Starts January 19, 2015

$25 per hour, 10 hours per week

Duties and responsibilities

  • Recruit, place, and help LOC train One to One volunteers
  • Gather and send volunteer contact info to Communications Director to maintain records
  • Support volunteer school coordinators in all participating schools
  • Visit each school at least once per school year
  • Create and distribute a newsletter to school coordinators and volunteers with tutoring tips once per session
  • Attend tutor meetings as required
  • Collect program data from schools monthly
  • Coordinate the “Pawsitive Reading” between St. John’s Ambulance and the School District
  • Coordinate and deliver the Save/Share/Spend Financial Literacy Program in all
    interested grade 3 classrooms in the district
  • Purchase books and learning resources for Children’s Literacy programs as required
  • Other children’s literacy program duties as required
  • Communicate regularly with the LOC and Communications Director

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Education is a necessity
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem solving and leadership skills
  • Effective communicator
  • Highly organized and efficient
  • Access to vehicle

COYOTE CAFE LITERACY SUPPORT TEACHER

starts February 10, 2015

$25 per hour, 5 hours per week

Duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare and implement effective and motivational literacy program in accordance with the Coyote Café/Club framework
  • Instruct, supervise, and facilitate student learning
  • Develop learning goals for individual students and groups
  • Develop a supportive learning environment for students
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the Coyote Café/Club team
  • Attend monthly PLC meetings with Coyote Café/Club team
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • Experience teaching early literacy
  • Excellent classroom management experience and skills
  • Knowledge of current literacy instructional practices including the Daily 5, CAFÉ
    strategies, and Catching Readers Before They Fall
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative environment with the Coyote Café/Club team
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Understanding of differentiated instruction and proven ability to work with vulnerable students
  • Satisfactory criminal record screening
  • Provision of own transportation
