The Pawsitive Reading program is a community based literacy initiative created in partnership with St. John Ambulance and School District No. 83. As part of the Pawsitive Reading Program, children have the opportunity to choose a special book and read it aloud to a friendly dog who has specialized training.
Dogs who participate in this program have been specially trained to work with children and love listening to stories! A child who may be hesitant to read aloud to his/her peers is typically less stressed about reading to a dog, since the dog will never judge the child’s reading ability. This program helps to increase a child’s comfort level and confidence with reading aloud.
Pawsitive Reading can only run when a specially trained dog such as Moby (pictured above) is available.
