After more than a decade of calling the space above the Salmar Classic Theatre home, the Literacy Alliance of the Shuswap Society (LASS) is getting ready to begin a new chapter. With new ownership and renovation plans underway at the historic building, it’s time for a move, and we’re happy to share that it’s just around the corner. LASS will soon be settling into a new space at 40 Lakeshore Drive, where we look forward to continuing to support literacy and learning throughout the North Okanagan-Shuswap.Our programs remain at the heart of what we do, and we’re excited to continue offering literacy support for children, adults, and families. These include the One-to-One Children’s Literacy program, Valid After School Reading Programs, Come Read With Me workshops, Tech Tutors digital assistance, Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week, and our much-loved annual Spelling Bee.
To help support the move, we’re inviting the community to join us for a pop-up fundraiser book sale on February 13 and 14 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will take place in the lobby of the former Salmar Classic Theatre at 360 Alexander Street.
February 14 is International Book Gifting Day, a worldwide celebration of sharing the joy of reading and it’s the perfect opportunity to browse hundreds of gently used books and support local literacy. A minimum donation of $2 per book is requested, with all proceeds going towards our move.
The Literacy Alliance of the Shuswap Society is grateful for the continued support of our community and looks forward to welcoming everyone to the new Lakeshore Drive location soon.
