Celebrating Community, Competition, and a Love of Spelling!

We are thrilled to share the success of our ninth Annual Spelling Bee fundraiser, hosted at Song Sparrow Hall on Wednesday, May 7th. It was a fun morning filled with laughter, learning, and lively competition as 14 enthusiastic teams came together to compete for the title of the Shuswap’s top spellers while grappling with words such as obstreperous and sesquipedalian.

There were several outstanding teams, leading to a five way tie for first place by the third round. After a tense and exciting tiebreaker during the fourth round, The Antidisestablishmentarianists and Team Bee-Witched engaged in a high-stakes word scramble, resulting in The Antidisestablishmentarianists claiming the title of 2025 Champions.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the amazing teams who participated and showed their support for literacy including:

Shuswap Optometric, Team Bee-Witched, Team Antidisestablishmentarianists, Team Barbeez, Salmon Arm Rotary, SASCU, Valid Manufacturing, Shuswap Film Society, Browne Johnson Land Surveyors, Salmon Arm Observer, North Okanagan-Shuswap Principals & Vice Principals Association, Shuswap Family Centre and Mt. Ida Nursery (who brought two teams)!

Thanks to your generous energy and community spirit, we raised an incredible $14,000 for local literacy programs!

Special thanks go to Song Sparrow Hall and Cahoots Kitchen, for graciously hosting us and serving a delicious breakfast, Brynn Hilland, for beautifully capturing the day through her photography, Bookingham Palace, the Barley Station, Wildwood Flower Emporium, the NOM and Centenoka Mall for donating door prizes and to our dedicated volunteers and local supporters, your contributions made this event truly unforgettable and your continued support allows literacy to thrive in our communities!
