Lenore Skenazy, “America’s Worst Mom”, is coming to speak in Salmon Arm on Jan 25 during Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week. The New York City columnist-turned-reality TV show host got that title after letting her 9-year-old son take the subway, alone. In response to the enormous media blowback, she founded the book and blog, “Free-Range Kids,” which launched the anti-helicopter parenting movement. Lenore is fighting the belief that our children are in constant danger from creeps, kidnapping, germs, grades, flashers, frustration, failure, baby snatchers, bugs, bullies, men, sleepovers and/or the perils of a non-organic grape.
The Literacy Alliance of the Shuswap Society (LASS) and many community partners have all come together to bring this hilarious and controversial speaker to Salmon Arm to hopefully spark a necessary community conversation.
